ESL Links: Magazines and Journals

Réflexions - A theme based journal bringing news of the second language education community, interesting topical articles, classroom ready activities and information on upcoming language events. Published three time a year by the Canadian Association of Second Language Teachers. Some articles from past issues are available online.

TESL-EJ - "TESL-EJ began as the brainchild of a group of scholars who saw the need for a freely-distributed academic journal. It has grown to become an internationally-recognized source of ESL and EFL information for people in scores of countries."

Language Learning & Technology - "...a fully-refereed journal with an editorial board of scholars in the fields of second language acquisition and computer-assisted language learning. The focus of the publication is not technology per se, but rather issues related to language learning and language teaching, and how they are affected or enhanced by the use of technologies."

JALT Journal - JALT Journal is the research journal for the organization. It is published twice yearly; in the spring and in the fall. This website offers details about current and previous issues of the JALT Journal, including authors, titles, indexes, and abstracts.

The Reading Matrix: An International Online Journal - "...a fully-refereed journal with an editorial board of scholars in the fields of second language acquisition and applied linguistics. The journal seeks to disseminate research to educators around the world. We are interested in exploring issues related to L2 reading, L2 literacy in a broader sense, and other issues related to second language learning and teaching."

Internet TESL Journal - Articles, Research Papers, Lessons Plans, Classroom Handouts, Teaching Ideas & Links. Online issues since November 1995. Archives contain links to resources from previous issues. Also contains an ever expanding ESL/EFL links section which contains over 7300 links so far.

Online Magazine for Learners of English - "Learners of English as a second language consider topics of interest to them, express their ideas and opinions, and illustrate their writings with drawings and photos. Language Magazine - a periodical of language, education and communication published 12 times a year to be kept up to date with developments in the fast paced world of language and literacy education. The online edition is available for paying subscribers.

TOPICS Online Magazine for ESL Learners - Articles written by ESL students from around the world about their personal experiences and their cultures. This magazine was created by Sandy Peters and Thomas Peters.

The ELT Journal - "a quarterly publication for all those involved in the field of teaching English as a second or foreign language. It seeks to bridge the gap between the everyday practical concerns of ELT professionals and related disciplines such as education, linguistics, psychology, and sociology that may offer significant insights." Full access to current and passed issue can be accessed online by paying subscribers. Published by Oxford University Press."

English Teaching Forum - "The Forum is a quarterly journal for teachers of English as a foreign or second language... It features articles by well-known scholars, readers world-wide, and the editorial staff. Articles focus on the theory and practice of teaching English and include discussions of methods, techniques and ideas useful in the classroom. Thematic content varies, often focusing on an aspect of American culture or a particular language skill or teaching approach." This is a quarterly journal. Articles from 1993-2001 issues are available online.

TESOL Quarterly - A quarterly journal. The table of content for issues from the Summer 1998 to the present are available online. Paid subscribers have access to all past issues. One article from the current issue is provided free of charge.

The Asian EFL Journal examines issues within the Asian EFL linguistic scene, and considers how traditional educational Approaches are integrated with or contrasted against what is arguably a very specialized and relatively new field of study.
