Site Search
The Site Search allows you to search the entire LangCanada.ca site. You can
find information and resources by entering the terms you are looking for in the
box provided. Here’s how to do it:
To begin your search:
Enter a word in the text box above.
Click on the "Go" button to see your results.
Here are a few hints on how to improve your Site Search to get more relevant
results.
Search Hints:
When you type multiple words in the search box, LangCanada looks for resources
that contain all of the words.
To search for an exact phrase, put it in quotes (Example: "to be or not
to be").
Uppercase and lowercase are treated the same.
You may also do a more complex boolean search:
AND - Finds documents containing all of the specified words or phrases. Peanut
AND butter finds documents with both the word peanut and the word butter.
OR - Finds documents containing at least one of the specified words or phrases.
Peanut OR butter finds documents containing either peanut or butter. The found
documents could contain both items, but not necessarily.
( ) - Use parentheses to group complex Boolean phrases. For example, (peanut
AND butter) AND (jelly OR jam) finds documents with the words 'peanut butter
and jelly' or 'peanut butter and jam' or both.
AND NOT - Excludes documents containing the specified word or phrase. Peanut
AND NOT butter finds documents with peanut but not containing butter.
Advanced Searches
The Advanced Searches allows you to fine-tune your search by choosing specific
fields. For example, on the Advanced Search for educational resources, you could
choose Core French + K-6 + speaking + lesson plans + reference. Just check off
the boxes that interest you!
You can also put themes, words, or phrases in the text box provided in Advanced
Search. If you prefer to use Boolean operators (e.g. AND, OR) the use of these
can be found in the Site Search section.
For the Advanced Search in educational resources, we encourage you to use
the controlled keywords to further refine your search. We have meticulously compiled
a two-tier hierarchy of over 100 subject areas, and each educational resource
has been assigned at least one of these controlled keywords. So please browse
through them. For example, if you are looking for resources to learn or teach
francophone culture, you can choose the keyword ‘Language Arts –
cultural awareness’.
To further help you in your advanced searching, much of the terminology (e.g.
Core French, lesson plan) found in the advanced searches are defined in the Glossary.
Have fun searching! Remember, if you have comments and/or you are not finding
what you are looking for, please contact us. We
want your experience at LangCanada.ca to be fruitful!
